The positive We Will Be Strong runs out at you with all guns blazing. White's blues-infused riffs are given their own style and not forced into the space vacated by Robertson and Moore. The production has a warmth to it that plays perfectly to the songs on the album. Sonically, the band are close to firing on all cylinders or at the very least most of them. White's more refrained approach fits in well with the album, crafting some underrated guitar work on tracks like "Chinatown" and "Sweetheart". The band are still at the top of their game when it comes to playing, Downey showing off his skills on "Sugar Blues" with Lynott throwing in good bass licks and riffs across the album. Having released such stellar albums in the past, Thin Lizzy were unable to release good albums without them feeling like a let down. When the final notes of "Hey You" ring out, you will find yourself in a strange position liking the album and not finding that much to take umbridge with, yet knowing the band could do better. Chinatown was the start of the end of the band while it is not a bad album, it wasn't the strong stepping stone the band needed to find their feet and adjust themselves at the time. With Gary Moore leaving the band again, Thin Lizzy entered the 1980s with a new look, sporting two new members in Wharton and White behind the keyboard and guitar respectively. The label on the disk is likely to have minor wear and possibly writing on the label. Your least favorite song (Sugar Blues) would have sounded a lot better if Snowy's guitar tone was under the care of John Alcock or even Visconti himself.Īs far as the post-Robertson/post-Moore recordings goes, this one rarely sees the light of day anymore.
